This is my entry for 
's Urban Fantasy contest.
Here's a little story to go with it...
...The shop lay at the dark end of the busy market. All the good, god-fearing folk in town would spit and cross themselves whenever the place was mentioned. They all knew who, or better what worked there. They knew the goings on in that unholy place. A witch. That's what she was. An impurity to be cast out of town. Why, no-one in their right mind would go near that shop. Heaven knows what she could do to you. She could put a curse on you. Or your whole family! They said she would go out at night and steal small children from their beds and use them to conjure up demons.
All this was, of course untrue. You don't need newborns to call demons to your side. All you really need to do is look closely at the people around you and sure enough, you'll find a demon or two.
Still, the witch's shop was marked with the scarlet letter and none of the good town folk would go near it.
But every now and again, late at night when the lights were low and the streets empty, a bell above the shop's door would sound. The next day, a lost sheep would return, a well would be cleared, a child cured.
And nobody ever spoke of this..."
It started out as something entirely different. I saw the stock and just had to do something with it. And then the pieces kept piling up. So anyway, this is the end result.
I'd like to thank ~Obeah for the constructive criticism. He's having a bday today, so go to his page and wish him a happy bday. I mean it. Go!
